  • Typical Description
Freedom across-the-line combination starters for motors up to 900 hp, 600 volts are Cutler-Hammer NEMA Type ECN16 (fusible disconnect) or ECN22 (motor circuit protector — HMCP). Reversing combination starters for motors up to 900 hp, 600 volts are Cutler-Hammer Freedom Series Type ECN17 (fusible disconnect) or ECN23 (motor circuit protector HMCP). All starters are built in accordance with the latest NEMA standards and conform to the National Electrical Code in addition to being UL listed.

Freedom overload relays are ambient compensated bimetallic type with interchangeable heaters, calibrated for 1.0 and 1.15 service factor motors. Electrically isolated NO and NC contacts are provided on the relay. Visual trip indication is standard. A test trip feature is provided for ease of troubleshooting and is conveniently operable without removing components or the motor starter. IT. across-the-line combination starters for motors up to 900 hp, 600 volts are Cutler-Hammer NEMA Type ECT16 (fusible disconnect) or ECT22 (motor circuit protector — HMCP). Reversing combination starters for motors up
to 900 hp, 600 volts are Cutler-Hammer Freedom Series Type ECT17 (fusible disconnect) or ECT23 (motor circuit protector HMCP).

IT. solid-state overload relays come with a 3.2:1 adjustment range. They also have phase loss protection, an alarm contact, selectable manual or automatic reset, test feature and an "alarm without trip" configuration. For Freedom starters, control circuit transformers, where specified, are encapsulated. Primary and secondary fusing is provided. Unless otherwise specified, the secondary will be 120 Vac. For IT. starters, control circuits are 24 Vdc.

Pilot devices, where specified, will be oiltight and mounted in the flange. Pilot lights of the transformer type are available for longer lamp life. Pilot device nameplates are engraved phenolic or aluminum.
The operating mechanism will be mounted on the flange and have positive, non-teasing ON/OFF action. The handle is color coded: red for ON and black for OFF.

The operating handle has a means to lock the handle in the OFF position with a minimum of three standard padlocks having 1/4-inch (6.4 mm) diameter shackles. Where specified, a disconnect switch with double break, rotary blades and quick make/quick break action can be provided.

A line shield with test probe holes for inspection will be provided. The shield is removable. The switch will have readily visible blades in the open (OFF) position. The fusible disconnect switch (through 100 amperes) will have built-in fuse pullers to make it easier to remove fuses. Where specified, an adjustable instantaneous trip, magnetic-only circuit breaker will be provided. A manual push-to-trip button is provided to exercise the trip unit. Fusible disconnect switches are UL listed for 100,000 amperes when Class R fuses are used. Combination starters with adjustable instantaneous trip, magnetic-only circuit breakers can be UL listed for up to 100,000 amperes through 480 volts.
